A teenage girl is sent to a psychiatric clinic when her family observes her very odd behaviour following the death of her twin sister. During a clinic group outing in town, the girl runs away and hides in Melinda's store, where her twin sister appears and blames Melinda for revealing the girl's whereabouts to clinic authorities.
After a man is killed in a triathlon bike accident, his fiancée attempts to take her own life. In an effort to save her, Melinda agrees to help the deceased fiancé talk her out of committing suicide.
Melinda and Andrea are hired to auction off furniture from a local inn before the structure is torn down by a new owner. Upon cleaning out the basement, Melinda discovers the sprits of three young boys and a dog that died in an orphanage fire in 1956. She must help them cross over before the inn is destroyed with them inside or they won't have anything to hold onto and will drift as earthbound sprits forever.
The spirit of a teenage boy approaches Melinda about finding his birth mother. Unsure of where to begin, Melinda approaches the boy's adoptive mother for more information and learns that his real mother never wanted to know her son. After meeting his birth mother, Melinda is left with the challenge of securing an affirmation of her love for her son so he can cross over.
