In 1905, Margaret Schlegel receives a letter regarding a potential engagement from her younger sister, while at home with her overbearing Aunt Juley and hypochondriac brother Tibby.
In the winter of 1906, Mrs Wilcox passes away, and throws her family into turmoil with her final request regarding Howards End. The Schlegels are told when to evict Wickham Place.
Margaret receives a marriage offer from Henry, which alters her plans; Helen is upset to hear Leonard Blast is unemployed when he changes jobs on the Schlegel's advice.
Margaret refuses to punish Henry for what he has done in the past, and chooses to let their engagement stand; Helen sets out on a trip around Europe with no explanation, returning only when she learns that Aunt Juley is sick.
