Karolina, a young and zealous policewoman, is investigating her father's disappearance, a legendary Warsaw policeman who vanished a year ago. During a seemingly minor intervention, she comes across a murder victim.

Karolina's worst suspicions come true with the autopsy. She and her sister try to inform their mother about the discovery, but they cannot find her.

Irena gets arrested and is sent to prison, where her inmates seem hostile; Karolina is convinced of her mother's innocence and conducts a private investigation.

Irena succeeds in earning the respect of her cellmates; Karolina and Michał seek the links between the suspects and follow the trail of the victim's money.

Irena's fellow inmates plan to escape, but a tragedy ruins their schemes; Karolina finds it difficult to accept the truth about her father and is convinced that he could not have acted alone.

Guilt torments Karolina as Michał fights for his life in the hospital; Karolina learns that her sister has far more knowledge about the relationship between their parents.
