An heir to a family fortune hires Jim to find the slayers of his parents, even though the police consider him to be their prime suspect. Though police have closed the case as unsolved, Larry Kirkoff remains a suspect.

When private eye Jim Rockford succumbs to the pressures of his lawyer friend Beth to investigate a homicide involving a screenwriter, he suddenly becomes a target of would-be assassins. Beth convinces Jim that Ann Calhoun did not slay her screenwriter husband. While investigating, Jim is nearly run over by a truck, which is just the first in a series of attempts on his life.

A wealthy Texan's wife hires Jim Rockford to deal with a blackmail problem. While Deborah and Ryder enjoy the affluent life and people still refer to Deborah as Countess, a hangover from her previous marriage, she suddenly is confronted by hoodlum Carl, who remembers her jumping bail on a minor charge some years back.
