Michelle Gomez

Scottish actress Michelle Gomez started out making audiences laugh before cementing a fantasy legacy with roles in "Doctor Who" (BBC, 2005-) and "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" (Netflix, 2018-). A native of Glasgow, she studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. After a series of small television roles, she had her first significant role playing Catriona in "The Acid House" (1998). She continued working in TV, with appearances on shows like "Taggart" (STV, 1983-2010) and "Rebus" (ITV, 2000-04). The guest spots paid off when she joined the cast of the sitcom "The Book Group" (Channel 4, 2002-03). While that show was short-lived, it led to a high-profile stint on the cult favorite "Green Wing" (Channel 4, 2004-07). She worked steadily on the small screen, adding roles on "Feel the Force" (BBC, 2006) and "Carrie & Barry" (BBC, 2004-05). In films, she joined Ralph Fiennes and Penelope Cruz for "Chromophobia" (2005), and starred in the television movies "The Wedding Belles" (Channel 4, 2007) and "Oliver Twist" (BBC, 2007). After joining Sharon Horgan and Samantha Spiro for the sketch comedy show "Pyschobitches" (Sky Arts, 2012-14), Gomez made TV history. She became the first female to play The Master, the nemesis of the good Doctor on "Doctor Who." She appeared in 15 episodes of the sci-fi mainstay, ending her time as The Master in 2017. On American television, she made a memorable guest appearance on the Batman prequel "Gotham" (Fox, 2014-) playing a villain known simply at The Lady. After venturing into the lore of two different iconic characters, Gomez added a third. She joined the cast of "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina," an offshoot of the popular "Riverdale" (The CW, 2016-), which reimagined the characters from the "Archie" comic books. The actress played Mary Wardwell, a teacher of the title character who is taken over by the villainous Madam Satan.
