When first-year teacher Alicia Gomez moves their Honors Debate class to the library, Makayla, Luke, Terrell, Robyn, and Miles must adjust to her somewhat unconventional methods. Later, friendships are tested after invites to the house party of the year finds only some of the debate team on the exclusive list, leaving Alicia to navigate doling out advice to her students – without really knowing them yet.

When the debate team is nicknamed “Nerd Zoo,” Luke takes it upon himself to correct the situation. In hopes of spending more time with Sarah, Terrell attempts to recruit the natural debater, as Alicia encourages Robyn to take on the role of captain.

After hearing Miles’ incredible singing voice, Alicia encourages him to step outside his comfort zone and audition for the school play. Terrell’s friends get in his head after Sarah finally agrees to go on a date – leaving him struggling to discern whether it’s a group hang or a one-on-one.

After accidentally scaring away Elliot’s date, Alicia makes up for it by overhauling his profile in hopes of finding his next match. When girls’ night with Robyn and Sarah runs long, Makayla’s study session with Luke gets pushed – and has an unexpected effect on their friendship. Meanwhile, Principal Maris teaches Miles her signature stare.

In an effort to live with no regrets, Luke and Terrell shake up the status quo with a lucrative, late night sneaker grab; the girls confront Ryan after his “flattering” social media post doesn’t hit the mark; and Alicia takes on her greatest challenge yet: PTA moms.

With the first Inter-School Debate fast approaching, Alicia realizes that she’s overinflated her team’s egos –and underprepared them for the meet. After learning that the run for class treasurer is no longer a one-horse race, Luke seeks an endorsement from a popular kid.
