The guardian of the temple dies and a new Golden Dragon must be chosen to replace him; two twins, Ang and Ling, compete for the privilege.

Ling's jealousy over losing the title of Golden Dragon to Ang makes her an easy target for the manipulative Zodiac Master, who tempts her with the promise of becoming the Shadow Dragon, a dark foil to Ang.

Ang becomes the Golden Dragon, protecting the 12 Zodiac Temples, while Ling as Shadow Dragon swears to destroy them.

Ang and Xuan Chi guard the ox and golden dragon power bands to keep Ling and the Zodiac Master -- who already have the dog and ram power bands -- from harnessing all the powers of earth.

The Zodiac Master gains control of the dog and ram power bands, allowing him to generate earthquakes.

Ang picks a fight at the dojo, so Master Chin assigns Ang and Xuan Chi to learn discipline.
