Tiga Talk

Kimmie and Jason have a hard time learning to share their toys. But with the help of Gertie and Gavin, Tiga teaches them the Sharing Song so they can work out how to share their new toy – a lovely birchbark basket from the Saulteau Nation Reserve.

Tiga is bored until he discovers the "fuh" sound, used for "fun" and "friends." Kokum takes Tiga on a ferry to Kuper Island Reserve. They have fun making the "fuh" sound and listening to a story about Freddy Fox. At home, everyone sings the Friendship Song.

Tiga is sad, but his friend Gertie finds a way to shoo away the blues with her Silly Song. Tiga and Kokum visit the NENAS Headstart program where a Cree Elder teaches words that begin with "s." Back home, Kimmie and Jason all learn the Silly Song.

Kimmie is growing and Tiga and Gertie wonder if they are as well. Tiga gets annoyed when he tries to sprout a seed but it won’t grow. Gertie teaches Tiga to sing to the plant and suggests that living things need love and care as well as water and sunlight.

Tiga isn’t a good listener and gets distracted as Kimmie reads a story. She gives up and decides not to bother. Later, Tiga and Kokum visit Jason’s school and learn about listening. Tiga is now a better listener and begs Kimmie to finish the story.

Gertie has a cough and needs to make sure it doesn’t spread to others. At Kokum’s, Kimmie is taking care of the school hamster—pretty scary stuff for Tiga—and Gavin worries he may become part of the soup!
