In 3rd-century China, Sima Yi (Wu Xiu Bo) serves as a trusted advisor to Cao Wei ruler Cao Pi (Li Chen), alongside his intelligent wife Zhang Chun Hua (Liu Tao). As rival states Shu Han and Eastern Wu plot war, Cao Pi's son ascends to the throne and seeks Sima Yi's counsel. When the young emperor falls critically ill, he names a young adopted heir and appoints Sima Yi and general Cao Shuang (Du Yi Heng) as joint regents, setting the stage for a fierce power struggle.
