Five seemingly unrelated strangers, each living in a different part of Britain, are given letters that read `I know what you did ...' and continue to receive subsequent messages from an unknown blackmailer, sending their lives into downward spirals. Among the people being blackmailed are a man-child who still lives with his mother, a one-handed children's entertainer and a blind millionaire who collects stuffed animals.
