Valerian, from the year 2417, meets Laureline in the year 912. When they return to Valerian's time, they find that Earth has disappeared. Settling in the galactic capital, the two begin a new life as space explorers and mercenaries.

A skilled fighter in both real and virtual worlds, Valerian wins first prize in a holographic robot fighting game. He wins a magnificent all-expenses-paid stay for two in a sumptuous hotel on the wonderful planet Farniza.

Year 2417. Central Point. The Earth disappeared nearly 400 years ago, and Valerian and Laureline seem to be the only two Earthlings in the galaxy. Their friend Prince Baral invites them to a fancy social event at the Galaxy Palace Hotel.
