It is the end of the Meiji Era, the poet Ishikawa Takuboku, who's struggling financially, starts a detective business out of his lodging in response to a certain murder case; he calls it the Woodpecker Detective's Office.

A Pleasant Occupation
Takuboku Ishikawa and Kyosuke Kindaichi witness a murder while roaming Asakusa; Takuboku follows the investigation and uses his skills to help the case.
EPISODE 2
A Red-Light District Woman
A prostitute from Hananoya, O-Taki, is killed and Kyousuke becomes a prime suspect; Kyousuke begins to suspect that Takuboku might have done it.
EPISODE 3
Casual Remarks
Kyousuke is arrested; Hagiwara Sakutarou, Nomura Kodou and the others gather at the milk hall, a small cafe serving European beverages and foods, to try to discover the truth of the situation.

Strange Stories of the High Tower
Rokurou, a man who sees to the running of Asakusa, commissions Takuboku to solve the mystery of ghost sightings; Takuboku reunites with an old friend, former newspaper reporter Yamaoka.

Accursed Beast
Thrilled by a friend's poetry collection, Takuboku begins to lose confidence in himself; Kyousuke tries to cheer him up, but is disappointed when he finds out that Takuboku sold Oen to another man.

Honeysuckle
A bizarre incident where popular actor Tachibanaya Orojirou was bitten and killed by the living doll, Kinginka, becomes the talk of the town; Takuboku and Isamu get on the case to find the real killer.
