Noboru Takagami and his brother Toru visit their mother's home, where an old woman they have known since their youth has fallen deathly ill...or so they were told. That was merely an excuse to bring them back and lure out a monster threatening Toru's life. The Takagami family is actually a family of shamans and they release a deified fox to come to their aid and save Toru.

Now that the fox, Kugen, has become the Takagami family's guardian deity, its first order of business is to follow them home. The Mamorime, Ko, also tags along. Kugen wants to greet the local deity, so Noboru takes everyone to the Hashiba Shrine. Along the way, they meet this so-called local deity managing a convenience store.

Ko is painfully clumsy with practically everything, but that doesn't stop her from trying. After she lets slip a comment about the brothers' mother, she notices Toru grows depressed. When asked, he reveals the reason why.

Summer is the season for love! Or so Misaki thinks. When she fantasizes about her feelings for Noboru, they always seem to go into a downward spiral. She imagines Noboru's dual relationship with Ku and Ko, but when a conversation with them goes into cooking, she gets invited to the Takagami household to make some cake.
