Art Watkins learns that his mother is dying while working on a book in Bhutan. He races back to Australia only to find that his mother has passed, and he must face the wrath of his brother, Vance.

Vance persuades Art to stay in order to contest their mother's will. Art takes the opportunity to attempt to bond with his son, while Vance and his girlfriend make an offer on their neighbour's land.

Art and Vance come up with a plan that sees them appear to comply with the terms of the will, but still allows Art to continue his travel writing. Eve is sceptical and warns Art that Vance cannot be trusted.

Art commits to staying in Broken Bay. A visit from his girlfriend causes problems with Eve. Facing romantic problems of his own, Vance exposes Melanie and Terry's affair.

Art and Suzy find themselves at loggerheads over a missing Josh, who is down about his father and his future. Terry's goons deliver a threat to Bev: pay back her loan or forfeit her land.

Art is slapped with a demolition order for the resort, and seeks help from a reluctant Eve. An encounter turns Lizzy's head, and during preparations for a council meeting, Art and Josh bond.
