Tom Austen

Tom Austen was a British actor who was best known for his recurring roles on the TV shows "The Royals" (E!, 2015-) and "Grantchester" (ITV, 2014-). Born and raised in Taunton, Somerset, Austen always dreamt of becoming an actor. It wasn't until he attended Queen's College in Taunton, however, that he really decided to pursue his interest in the craft. Austen then enrolled in the Guildhall School of Music in Drama where he began his professional training as an actor. He spent the next few years studying at the school, before earning his degree in acting. Upon graduation Austen set out on auditioning for film and TV roles in his native England. He nabbed his first role on the UK series "Shameless" (Channel 4, 2004-2013) in 2010, and followed that up with small parts on "Doctors" (BBC, 2000-) and "Hollyoaks Later" (E4, 2008-2013). In 2012 Austen landed his first recurring TV role on "Beaver Falls" (E4, 2011-12), but the series was cancelled after its second season. Undeterred, Austen continued landing recurring TV roles on shows like "The Borgias" (Showtime, 2011-13) and "Jo" (TF1, 2013), as well as a part in the science-fiction action film "Legendary" (2013). With his acting career picking up steam, Austen joined the cast of "Grantchester" in 2014 as Guy Hopkins. He appeared in 11 episodes of the show through 2017. In addition to his recurring role on "Grantchester" in 2015, Austen also nabbed recurring parts on "Unforgotten" (ITV, 2015-) and "The Royals." His role on "Unforgotten" lasted only one season but his role as Jasper on "The Royals" continued through 2017. Despite being primarily known as a TV actor, Austen returned to film acting in 2017 with a role in the romantic war drama "Bitter Harvest" (2017). That film, directed by George Mendeluk, also starred Barry Pepper and Max Irons.
