Less than ten weeks remain before the general election when Annika Nilsson, a local politician in Uddevalla, is murdered on her way home from a town rally.

At the height of the election campaign the attorney general's chief of staff disappears without a trace. Her replacement Elin Hammar is thrown immediately into a web of lies and conspiracies when she tries to find out what has happened.

The murder of Annika Nilsson shocks the election campaign. Trygghetspartiet sees her murder as an opportunity to win new sympathies, which offends Annika's daughter Sofia deeply.

The government becomes even more divided on how to deal with the terrorist threat from Veritas. The discord may explain what has happened to Sarah. When Elin digs deeper, the traces seem to lead back to Rosenbad.

There is full activity before the first debate of the election campaign. Elin hardly has time to think about Sarah, but then she receives a phone call that changes everything.
