Police captain Mat Joubert used to be the best but he's been on a downward spiral since the death of his wife. Now Mat is an out of shape chain smoker who is ambivalent about the world around him. He is assigned a new partner, Sanctus Snook - a sleek ex-elite cop who Mat instinctively dislikes. When dead bodies wearing masks start piling up they realize they have a serial killer on their hands.
