Amidst a divorce that threatens to tear Cen Jin's (Michelle Chen) life apart, she receives a call from Li Wu (Daniel Zhou), a rural boy whose education was supported by Cen Jin's family. Li Wu has no one else to turn to after his grandfather's passing, and is on the brink of dropping out of school. Moved by his determination, Cen Jin decides to bring Li Wu to Shanghai to finish his high school education and study for the college entrance exam. The two drift apart while Li Wu attends university, but they reunite six years later when Li Wu moves back to Shanghai for work – and now, he wants Cen Jin to see him as a man worthy of partnership.
