The Sanmillán family seems normal: Fernando is a successful lawyer and María Inés, a devoted housewife to their children Andrés, Mónica, and Adriana. But Fernando has a lover, Daniela, and Mónica is shocked when she overhears one of his phone calls. During a dinner, Fernando hurts María Inés by referring to her beauty only in the past tense. Meanwhile, we meet Alejandro, a kind neighbor with a disorganized life and a son, Álex. As Fernando and Daniela argue about how difficult their secret romance is, at home María Inés notices that Mónica is not eating well, but Fernando responds with indifference. Finally, Paulina discovers the secret when she sees Fernando and Daniela being very affectionate at the airport.

María Inés complains to Ignacio about his lack of desire and asks if there is another woman, but he responds aggressively. Tired of always solving family problems without being appreciated, she reflects on how many women end up accepting infidelity in long marriages for the sake of their children or out of fear of being alone. Mónica also notices the situation, suspects her father’s betrayal, and fears she may come to resent her parents because of the decisions they are making. Finally, the conflict is about to explode when Paulina tells Rosario that she saw Ignacio kissing another woman at the airport, confirming all the suspicions.

Daniela loves Ignacio despite their 30-year age difference, ignoring the warnings of her friend Marcela. Meanwhile, Ignacio decides to sell the house in Cuernavaca, triggering a conflict with María Inés, who opposes the idea due to its sentimental value. Adriana blames her mother for provoking him. The family begins to fall apart: Ignacio belittles Andrés’ music, and Mónica, who suffers from bulimia, discovers her father’s infidelity through a phone call. The marital rift grows so wide that María Inés rejects a cold, detached attempt at intimacy from Ignacio. The final blow comes when Paulina reveals to María Inés that she saw her husband kissing another woman. Devastated, María Inés confesses to Rosario that she has gone years without intimacy, feeling alone and undesired.

Rosario advises María Inés to confront Ignacio, but fear of the truth paralyzes her. Her own mother, Elena, worsens her pain by blaming her for neglecting her appearance. Meanwhile, Francisco confirms that Ignacio and Daniela’s romance is serious, and Paulina reveals everything about Ignacio to Alejandro. Finally, María Inés confronts her husband. He denies the infidelity but admits that their marriage is broken. The conflict escalates when Mónica and Adriana defend their father and blame their mother, clashing with Andrés, the only one who supports her. Despite the rejection, María Inés decides to renew her image. For his part, Ignacio warns Daniela that they will have to distance themselves, breaking her heart by confirming that she will always be "the other woman."

The final blow comes on María Inés and Ignacio’s wedding anniversary: while she wants to celebrate it alone with him, Ignacio chooses to spend the day with his lover, confirming the imminent breakdown of their relationship.

This rupture unleashes family chaos: Andrés resents his father, while Elena and the daughters judge them both. The constant tension worsens Mónica’s condition, leading her to a car accident. At the hospital, the doctor warns her parents that her health is at risk due to a serious psychological issue that requires urgent attention. In the midst of this family storm, María Inés collapses emotionally. After 27 years devoted to her home, Ignacio’s indifference leaves her feeling a profound emptiness, forcing her to question who she really is and opening the door to a painful but necessary transformation.
