A young man is killed and Helle is assigned to lead the investigation. Special investigators Dreyer & Jacobi arrive from out of town, and make it clear that they require no further help. Subtitled.

Police Chief Ed Arvola links an old double homicide—along with the case of Hedda’s missing mother—to the new investigation. Meanwhile Dreyer’s frustration increases due to the silence of the girl’s Church, which results in a fatal mistake while hunting down a suspect.

Dreyer tampers with evidence in order to protect himself, but Ed notices something is out of place. Hedda, after receiving new information about her mother, takes a personal leave to investigate the darker side of her father.

The aftermath of the killing ripples through the small community causing long-held tensions and frustrations to boil over. And new developments in the case result in similar divisions within the police department.

Hedda seeks out a close relative for comfort but senses a dark secret while Ed gets more dissatisfied with the handling of the case, getting himself directly involved as his suspicions increase.

Dreyer’s guilt increases affecting his judgement and Ed discovers potential tampering with older homicide cases. Meanwhile, a bold revelation about the religious affiliations of the town are brought to the surface.
