Four couples in Australia are at a crossroads in their relationship and will get the chance to live with a stranger for two weeks, in an experimental marriage, to help determine if different traits and characteristics in a mate could make their marriage stronger. After revealing their plans to their shocked families and friends, they pack their bags, set some ground rules, dwell on their hopes and fears before emotional farewells and teary departures. Arriving in their new homes before their experimental partners arrive, the first of many surprises is revealed–there is only one bedroom, with only one bed!

Now separated from their real partners, they meet the person they’ll be living with in an experimental marriage for the coming weeks. The experimental couples are Ryan and Michelle, Jason and Cassie, Brad and Jackie and Tim and Tallena. To help them navigate the strong emotions this radical experiment presents, therapists Jo and Peter meet with the couples. There are gut-wrenching revelations as they view confessions from their real partners; things they were too scared to admit, face-to-face.

In this episode, the experimental couples participate in their new partner’s interests in order to bring them closer together. Brad takes Jackie for a round of golf and Jackie gets Brad to learn a sexy Latin dance. Tim and Tallena try out massage therapy, while Ryan and Michelle go yachting on Sydney Harbour. Jason teaches Cassie a few moves on the drum kit before revealing he’s been living a sexless life for over a year in his real marriage. Therapists Peter and Jo return and surprise the experimental couples with the news that they will be going on a weekend getaway together.

Weekends away involve a helicopter ride and a steamy hot-tub for one experimental couple, learning to let go in Byron Bay for another and the telling of a tragic story for a third.

Shocking truths are revealed to the experimental couples as they're shown footage of examples of tension in their original relationships.

Bonds of trust have been established between the experimental couples. Now that the project is drawing to a close, the therapists pose the question: are the original relationships worth saving?
