Shadowlands

Rare penguins are locked in a daily game of cat and mouse with giant New Zealand sea lions; the sea lions also live in a tumultuous world, where pups must battle the elements to survive.

New Zealand's dark fjords harbor creatures normally found in the deep; as winter approaches, bottlenose dolphins must escape their freezing fjord, while in a mountain river, a longfin eel heeds the call of the sea.

The south-eastern coast of New Zealand is the place for young marine animals to transition from novices to independent adults; young whales, dolphins and seals learn to hunt, learn the rules of society, or strike out on their own adventures.
