After returning from Tokyo, mushroom entrepreneur Jaakko learns that he is slowly dying from a mysterious poison and sets out to find the person responsible. Meanwhile, a local gang attempts to muscle in on Jaakko's company.
Jaakko attempts to fly under the radar when one of the rival thugs goes missing. With his suspect list growing, Jaakko continues to hunt for the identity of his killer even as his wife, Taina, confronts him.
Not sure who to trust, Jaakko suspects that Taina and her lover, Petri, want him out of the way in order to take over the business. He also draws increased scrutiny from his rival Asko and Detective Tikkanen.
After being ambushed, Jaakko regains consciousness only to find his attacker dead. He buries the body then makes plans to meet Asko for a peace parley at an abandoned pier.
As the rain arrives and the first new mushrooms begin to sprout, Jaakko and Sanni shadow Taina while she takes the Japanese visitors on a trip to the forest.
With his condition worsening, Jaakko searches for the truth, starting with Taina and Petri. But when Jaakko finally unmasks the culprit, can he find peace before his time runs out?
