Tracking a sadistic killer, detective Kurt Wallander follows a string of incidents -- attacks on domestic animals, ritualistic murders of humans -- with help from his daughter, Linda, a new member of the Ystad police force.

When an intellectually handicapped man walks into a bank wearing a feather in his hair and claiming to have a bomb around his neck, the bank employees rush to do what he says; Wallander and team have to figure out if he’s someone’s pawn. Astrological references are the only clues they have to go on, and that’s something no one on the team knows anything about.

A middle-aged wealthy couple is found murdered at their stately home while a military exercise has overtaken Ystad. The first place to look for a perpetrator is among the young soldiers. Linda Wallander and Detective Stefan Lindman dig up a surprising lead, proving that when it comes to hunting down a criminal, they can hold their own with Kurt.

A baby screams alone in an abandoned car along a highway. His father has disappeared and his mother lives in a catatonic state in a psychiatric hospital. Because of Kurt’s health issues, Linda has to take the lead on a case that brings her face to face with any parent’s worst nightmare.

A black man lies dead in the car of a freight train that came from Ystad. Most of the evidence points to it being a racially motivated crime. But the investigation takes a surprising turn when the murder weapon is connected to one of Kurt’s childhood friends, who happens to be running for office on an anti-immigration platform.

Someone has infiltrated the Ystad police station, effectively closing it down for several critical hours. At the same time, Wallander is trying to understand the connection between the abduction of fellow detective Martinson’s daughter and a woman found hanged. As they work the case, the two men start to behave like hunted animals themselves.
