Honoré Mercier hopes to change Quebec's future and stands for election, Father Labelle dreams of a railway line to the north, a symbol of hope for the parishioners, and Donalda would like to see Alexis set up on her land.

An employee at Séraphin's yard, Alexis, continues to love Donalda from afar, Father Labelle receives a visit from Bishop Fabre, who's unhappy with Mercier's election, and Méo's land is sold at auction.

Alexis, who is involved in illegal whiskey trading, is arrested, Father Labelle sets up a colonisation lottery and receives a visit from a bailiff, and a special secret is revealed.

Évangéliste falls ill and Séraphin tries to change the will in his favour, new colonists arrive and the Malterre hotel risks changing owners, Siffleux learns that he's been adopted, and a fight gets out of hand and ends in death.

Father Labelle strips Séraphin of his title as land manager, Alexis is wanted for murder and Donalda is sick with grief, Cyprien and Angélique decide to wed, and Caroline has lost the Malterre hotel and wants revenge on Séraphin.

Évangéliste's death looks suspicious and Séraphin tells Délima to leave the family home, the villagers are intrigued by a new arrival, Alexis is in prison awaiting his trial, and Donalda convinces Jérôme to help her prove his innocence.
