Episode 1 S3, E1: It’s a new day, it’s a new dawn, it’s a new ward. King Edwards has shut, B4 is no more. Kim, Den and Pippa have moved to neighbouring St Jude’s in anticipation of a now stalled re-development. Their new home, twin bayed K2, is modern and clean. All appears well. But behind the glossy façade lie the same old patients and problems. And beyond that come a long list of new worries. Kim is barely keeping her head above water, home life for Pippa is no more settled, and Den is about to discover her own brand new challenge. With Hilary Loftus looking for efficiency savings and Diversity cup cakes on the menu courtesy of modern matron Damaris, the staff once again get on with the daily task of getting on.

Darkly funny, tough and compassionate, `Getting On' follows the daily lives of nurses as they go about their routine tasks. It's set at the backwater of an NHS hospital - the women's geriatric ward, a depository for dying and discombobulated patients. Return-to-practice nurse Kim Wilde tries to employ common sense and compassion in her dealings with the elderly and their families. In charge of the ward is Sister Flixter, but she's drowning in paperwork and relies on nurse Wilde to keep things running smoothly. The patients, however, are the least of their problems, especially compared to stool-obsessed ward doctor Pippa Moore and male matron Hilary Loftus, who likes to do his job by the book.
