    The Aquarium
    Grace Travis is a loving wife and mother and one of the bay area's best undercover detectives. She's been on loan with the Oakland Police Department for the past year working undercover as a fixer in Jimmy Laszlo's criminal organization. After her son, Sam, is killed in an apparent drive-by, Grace's life is shattered. When a connection emerges between the shooting and her police work, Grace resumes her undercover life inside Laszlo's organization, against the express orders of her superiors at the Oakland Police Department. Unable to confide anyone, Grace reaches out to her mentor, Mitch, for help in Sam's case. When Grace's former handler, Wilson, discovers what she's up to, it complicates the situation. Meanwhile, Jimmy Laszlo has problems of his own. After his accountant, Tony Aldon, is found dead, Jimmy and his crew is left wondering whose behind it. Is a rival Chinese organization, Clay Street, moving against them? Jimmy and his son, Alec, differ in their ideas on how to handle the threat.

    Fireball
    Jimmy Laszlo has discovered Grace's true identity. While pleading for her life, Grace convinces Jimmy that there’s a traitor in his own organization, and it’s tied to her son's death. Jimmy investigates Grace’s claims and confirms she's telling the truth about Sam. Jimmy discovers millions are missing from his accounts. Uncertain about his crew, Jimmy tightens ship. After Lieutenant Hernandez discovers Grace is back undercover without authorization, Grace faces an internal affairs review board for her conduct. Alec, believing Clay Street is moving against them, orders retaliation by firebombing one of their restaurants. Jimmy’s youngest son, Max, gets out of jail. Grace confides in Mitch that Jimmy's discovered her real identity. He warns her to get out while she can. After having promised to make her daughter, Evie, dinner, Grace is summoned to Jimmy's house for a party. She is unable to refuse. At Max's welcome home party, Jimmy and Grace make a deal to work together.

    Cathy's Song
    The Laszlos feel the fallout from Alec's retaliation against Clay Street. The Chinese want blood or money, and the police want justice. Grace convinces Jimmy to take pre-emptive action by walking into the police station on his own volition and denying his family’s involvement. Grace uses this distraction to steal cell phones from his crew and asks Mitch to run for location and call histories. Alec's wife, Cathy, encourages him to take charge and stop asking for Jimmy's approval. Alec in an attempt to make up for his misstep, kills his two crew members responsible for the firebombing. Grace has a fight with her husband, Tom, who can't understand her obsession with finding their son's killer. Grace and Mitch discovers another link between one of Jimmy’s associates and Sam's shooting.

    Sweet and Sour
    Jimmy reprimands Alec for killing the two crew members. If he ever wants Jimmy's seat, he's going to have think through his actions more carefully. Grace questions Jimmy about the killing, he admits Alec was behind it. Wilson confronts Grace about the feud between Clay Street and the Laszlos. Grace tells him its been resolved. Captain Campbell pushes Lieutenant Hernandez to find something on the Laszlos. Jimmy informs Max about the missing money and his failed attempt to buy a bank. Max agrees to help his father track down the cash. He begins looking through Tony's papers. Max, suspicious of Grace, invites her out to dinner. Grace is summoned to Evie's school where Tom informs her that Evie has hit her teacher. Grace realizes Evie is emotionally struggling much more than she thought. Grace learns that the medical insurance for Charlie’s wife, Nancy, has lapsed and they're having trouble paying for her MS treatment. Jimmy and Grace confront Charlie about his money issues, only to discover that he won't disclosed whose paying him. Grace and Jimmy attempt to flush out Charlie and his accomplices only to return and find Charlie dead from apparent suicide.

    Hawala
    Jimmy and Grace go through Charlie's papers searching for a lead. Grace asks Mitch to run the serial numbers on money they find in Charlie’s home. He discovers a link to a treasure agent, Michael Chen, who committed suicide five months earlier. Grace remembers she was supposed to meet with Chen around the time of his death – he never showed up. Jimmy confides in Max that Uncle Charlie might be the one behind the missing money. Max questions Jimmy about how much Grace knows, and Jimmy reassures Max that Grace can be trusted. Max has discovered hawala receipts in Tony's papers, and trace it the hawala agent. They try to find out where the money is located and who has it, but the agent is unable to tell them. Alec believes Jimmy is going to give him Charlie's business, but to Alec's chagrin Jimmy has other plans. Meanwhile, Tom learns Evie's teacher, Shelley won't be pressing charges. In Grace's absence, he seeks comfort with Shelley. Grace tries to speak with Michael Chen's widow, but she refuses to talk to the police. Grace is ambushed by a masked gunman. Injured and alone, she calls Jimmy for help. They take refuge in a motel, where he tends to her wounds. They kiss.

  • EPISODE 6
    The Second Amendment
    Grace tells Tom he and Evie need to stay someplace else for a couple days. Although Grace won't tell him why, Tom suspects something is wrong. Tom decides to take Evie to stay at Shelley's place. Alec, frustrated by not being given Charlie's business, starts a fist fight with Max. The two brawl and Max is left bloody and bruised. Mitch discovers that the bullet pulled out of Michael Chen was also homemade – the same kind that was used in Sam's shooting – leading to the theory that Michael Chen was murdered. Grace and Jimmy follow the lead to an abandoned shooting range, where they discover a man named Jonah Mann has been scavenging the shell casings for his homemade bullets. Jimmy and Grace try to get information out of him, but he’s uncooperative. Grace finds a clue in his shack, leading her to suspect Max in the conspiracy. Later, Grace and Mitch visit the prison where Max was incarcerated, finding evidence linking Max to the plot against Jimmy. That night, Grace meets Max for drinks, but unbeknownst to her, Max is aware Grace is on to him.
